Continuing my series “the United Plates of America,” next up is Alaska with this Alaska smoked salmon dip! The first thing that comes to mind when I think about Alaska is fish. Fish fish fish. So, this smoked salmon dip felt perfect! It is easy to make and is creamy and delicious.
My dad and brothers go up to Alaska most summers to go fishing, and come back with pounds and pounds of alaskan salmon and halibut! I could never last a week straight of just fishing, but I am happy to share their spoils. Having a freezer packed with high quality salmon and halibut (that lasts almost a full year) makes me a happy gal. We love to hot smoke a lot of it, so we always have a stash of smoked salmon as well! Unfortunately, Connor and I don’t live by our families anymore, so I no longer have a constant stash. But, there are many options of smoked salmon you can buy at the grocery store!
For this dip, we need to use hot smoked salmon. Cold smoked salmon will not work for this dip. Hot smoked salmon has the texture of normal cooked salmon, but obviously has a strong, smokey flavor. We need the salmon to flake so we can mix it with the other ingredients, which is why hot smoked salmon is a must.
what is in this Alaska smoked salmon dip?
- hot smoked salmon
- cream cheese
- sour cream
- mayonnaise
- garlic
- dried dill
- lemon juice
- lemon zest
- salt & pepper
Other than the smoked salmon, these are all common ingredients that you probably already have at home!
Now to talk about what to serve this dip with. Like any good dip, this dip is great with crackers, bread, and vegetables. My favorite thing to eat it on is crackers, they have such a good crunch that pairs perfectly with the dip.
