tips for making cookies and scream cookies
Stuffing each cookie with a whole Oreo is optional, but it’s simple and adds such a fun bite and looks so cool. The easiest way to stuff each cookie is to use a really large cookie scoop. If your cookie scoop is larger than an Oreo, then once you’ve scooped out the dough, use your fingers to make a wide hole in the dough. Then push the Oreo in and cover it with dough. Now you can remove the dough ball from the cookie scoop and it’s ready to go! If you don’t have a large cookie scoop, you can totally just do everything in your hands and it will work just fine.
Once the dough ball is stuffed with an Oreo, the next step is to roll it in m&m’s. Sometimes the m&m’s can be a little finicky and don’t stick to the dough very well. If this is the case for you, the best thing to do is grab m&m’s in your hand and push them into the dough ball. This should help them stick better!

ingredients
- 1 cup butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup brown sugar light or dark is fine
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 4 cups flour 420 grams
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup chopped Oreos + extra for stuffing
- 1 cup m&m's
instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 F. Add butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar to the bowl of stand mixer (you can also use a hand mixer). Mix for 4-5 minutes until the butter and sugars have totally combined and the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla and mix until combined.
- Add flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix until just combined.
- Add chopped Oreos and mix until evenly distributed.
- Using a large cookie scoop, or your hands, get a large chunk of dough. Use your fingers to make a hole/well in the dough, big enough for an Oreo. Place one whole Oreo in the hole and close the dough around it. Repeat with the remaining dough.
- Pour the m&m's in a shallow bowl. Roll each dough ball in the m&m's so all of the dough ball is covered, except the bottom.
- Transfer up to 6 dough balls to a lined baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, until cookies are just set. We don't want to over bake these or they can be dry, so take them out when the outside is just starting to brown slightly!
- Let the cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely. Enjoy!
