After a long hiatus, my series “Cookies Inspired by TV Shows and Movies” is back! We are starting off strong with these double chocolate cookies for the TV show Wednesday! It is a thick, soft chocolate cookie that is packed with chocolate chips. It is rich and chocolately, and Wednesday would love them.
If you aren’t familiar with the show Wednesday, it is a Netflix show about Wednesday Addams, of the Addams family. She is dark and mysterious and loves the color black. Like, obsessed — it is the only color she will wear! And that is what inspired these cookies. Black (more like brown, but it works) cookies, with semi-sweet chocolate chips, aka the perfect Wednesday cookies!
ingredients needed for double chocolate cookies
- 1 cup butter, cold
- 1 cup brown sugar (i used light)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3 cups flour (390 grams)
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
how to make double chocolate cookies
These cookies are easy to make! We are using a typical cookie method — start by creaming the butter and sugars, add the eggs, then the dry ingredients. Once that is combined, add the chocolate chips and the dough is finished!
Since we are using cold butter, this dough doesn’t require any chill time. You can definitely chill them if you want, like if you want to bake these later, but it isn’t necessary. Also, I love to add extra chocolate chips on top of each dough ball to give the cookie a finished look!

double chocolate cookies
ingredients
- 1 cup butter cold
- 1 cup brown sugar i use light
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3 cups flour 390 grams
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips i like to use semi-sweet, but any kind will work!
instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350F. Add butter, brown sugar, and sugar to a bowl. Using a stand or hand mixer, mix for 4-5 minutes, until creamed and fully combined.
- Add the eggs and mix until combined. Add flour, cocoa powder, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Mix until just combined.
- Add chocolate chips and mix until the chips are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Using a large scoop, about 1/4 cup, scoop the dough onto a lined baking sheet (you can definitely make smaller cookies, you'll just need to decrease the baking time). Press a few chocolate chips on the top of each dough ball (optional, butt gives a cool finished look).
- Bake for 9-11 minutes. Allow to cool for at least 20 minutes. Enjoy!
- p.s. these are very good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
Does it matter if it’s salted or unsalted butter? 🙂
nope! it doesn’t make a huge difference. if you have both on hand, use unsalted, but if you only have salted, that will work just fine!
Another amazing cookie recipe from you! Might be my favorite so far. I followed the directions exactly except I chopped up dark chocolate bars to us as chunks instead of chocolate chips but I did push chocolate chips into the top for that pro look. Thank you so much for another keeper of a recipe!
yay i’m so glad you enjoyed!! that is such a great idea to add dark chocolate chunks to make an extra dark cookie!
This is the first time I baked one of your recipes. I’m trying to decide on which cookies to add to my cookie gift boxes this year. My husband and I both agreed they were not a very sweet cookie. However, before I put in the last batch, I rolled them in some white sparkle sanding sugar. It gave some holiday pizazz and added a bit more sweetness. Yum!
