I am back with another Crumbl cookie and today we are making copycat Crumbl red velvet cookies! These cookies are soft, dense, and have the perfect red velvet flavor. All topped with a smooth cream cheese frosting, these cookies will quickly be your new favorites.
One of the signature attributes of Crumbl cookies are their size. They are MASSIVE. So, we are following suit and making these cookies large. You can certainly make them smaller if you want, but if you are going for the true Crumbl experience, big cookies it is.
I have always been a fan of red velvet. Red velvet is normally soft, slightly chocolaty but not too chocolaty, and usually are topped with cream cheese frosting! And these cookies are no exception. Just like Crumbl’s we are finishing these cookies with a crumble of red velvet cookie. I usually make one smaller, then crumble that cookie up to put on top of the rest. The crumble is definitely optional, but makes the cookies look great!
ingredients for copycat Crumbl red velvet cookies
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 4-5 drops red food coloring (more or less depending on how strong the food coloring is)
- 3 cups flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
Easy peasy! Possibly other than the red food coloring, these are all very common cookie ingredients. And, if you don’t have red food coloring, or don’t eat food coloring, you can just leave it out. The cookies will still taste incredible, they just won’t have a red hue!
tips to get the best red velvet cookies
One trick to these cookies is to not let them overcook. If these cookies cook for too long they become quite dry. But, if they’re baked the right amount they are perfectly soft and moist! The only tricky thing is, when these cookies are cooked the perfect amount, they look slightly undercooked. So, don’t be afraid to take these out of the oven, even if they look slightly undercooked. They’re not, and when they cool completely they’ll set up and be the perfect cookies.

Made these last night. They’re delicious. A bit disappointed that I couldn’t get that rich red color of red velvet, but they’re still delicious nonetheless.

Would I need to change anything at all for high altitude? I live around 6500 feet. Thank you!!
hi! at high altitudes you might need a bit of extra flour. if your dough is sticky, add 1 tbsp additions of extra flour until it is no longer sticky!
